Cost Estimation

Cost Estimates that are Open, Clear, and Accurate

A new Process’s installed cost is often critically important to whether the Customer proceeds with the installation. ChemTech can help by preparing a project cost estimate, at an accuracy level matching the customer’s needs:

A coarse first estimate of ±30% accuracy can be prepared with:

• A location plan where the process will be installed
• An informal flow sheet
• Preliminary equipment sizing and materials specifications
• Information on required buildings
• Piping list with sizing and materials
• A preliminary motor list with rough sizing for power control
• An engineering and design manpower estimate

The estimate is prepared using the Richardson Construction Estimating Standards

Estimate accuracy can be improved to ±20% by adding these drawings and specifications to those above:

• Site data with soil bearings; location of rails, roads, etc.
• A preliminary flow diagram
• A preliminary general arrangement
• Building definition, foundation sketches, and preliminary structural design
• Preliminary insulation specifications
• A preliminary instrument list
• Determination if power transformer(s) will be required

Expanding the project specifications further allows the estimate to be improved to ±10% accuracy:

• Prepare a site plot plan and a topographical map
• Finalize the process flow diagram
• Prepare equipment and vessel specification sheets
• Include general arrangements and elevations of any required buildings
• Finalize the size, materials, and specifications of pipelines, estimate the pipeline lengths and support system to be used
• Prepare a list of the equipment and piping to be insulated, the insulation types and thicknesses to be applied
• Prepare power single line and lighting drawings
• Preliminary specifications for instruments and controls

Vendor equipment prices are included with the Richardson data to improve the accuracy.

All data used is provided to the customer for full transparency and flexibility as the project proceeds.
