Piping system design requirements span multiple engineering disciplines. Process engineering defines fluid flows, pressure, temperature and pipeline materials and sizing. Mechanical engineering develops the piping component specifications and their configuration requirements. Structural engineering contributes the support elements needed for gravity loads, flow induced forces, earthquake, wind, and thermal expansion of high temperature systems.
Piping Codes and Standards define the requirements for structural design but also reference building and civil engineering Codes to define the loads that must be considered. The piping Codes also define the documentation and the requirements for fabrication, inspection, and testing before the lines are placed into service. The most common Codes used for piping systems are:
ChemTech has employed additional Codes and Standards for specialized installations. These include guidelines published by the professional organizations ASHRAE, AISC, ANSI, API, ASCE, ASTM, AWS, AWWA, EJMA, NACE, NFPA, OSHA and PFI. ChemTech can help you determine the guidelines that apply to your project.
ChemTech can supply all aspects of the piping system design. Our engineers and designers are experienced with the necessary Codes and Standards and apply them to insure compliance. ChemTech’s engineers and designers understand these requirements and their impact on the cost and construct ability of the piping system.
ChemTech has developed specialized piping system designs including:
ChemTech uses Design Flow System from ABZ, Inc. to analyze process flow and AutoPIPE from Bentley Systems, Inc. to perform pipe stress analysis for the designs.
Our engineers and designers have spent years developing, and are justifiably proud of, their piping design skills.
